Logo Redesign

for Oasis, Hong Kong Centre for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Brief

A redesign of the oasis logo was needed to adapt to the new direction for the counselling centre. A professional look was demanded as the centre broadens its client base while keeping the motif which is to provide a haven for its clients.

Challenges

There are 3 main partners in oasis, while each of them has their own preferences. I had to identify the problem of the original logo before beginning my design process.

The Solution

After meeting the partners, there were 3 major changes to the original logo.

  1. The shape of the leaf adhering the letter O, because of its phallic shape.

  2. The colour of the logo, the partners had decided to go for a dark blue.

  3. “Hong Kong Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy” needed to be added to show its broadened client base which are residents across Hong Kong.

The Original Logo

There are 5 versions of the logo, with the main logo in a yellow to green gradient and four other variations of it.

The New Logos

There were 2 variations made for the partners to choose from. Both of them resemble the shape of a leaf adhering the letter O. One (left) is more subtle and abstract that also resembles a leaf under the sun while the other (right) is less abstract that resembles the shape of the leaf clearer. I had suggested another colour, teal, for the partners to choose from that matches the motif of the centre more, in my opinion.

The Decision

The partners chose to stick with the original blue and the logo with a clearer shape of a leaf.

Application of the logo

The logo is used in business cards and on window for display. A social media post with the Hong Kong skyline was also made to emphasise the new client base.
