Hong Kong International Youth Philharmonia Recruitment Poster
for Hong Kong International Youth Philharmonia
The Brief
I was asked to make a recruitment poster for the Hong Kong International Youth Philharmonia (HKIYP). HKIYP is a philharmonic orchestra that consists young musicians in different levels ranging from primary school to tertiary education. The feeling of a fun and lively orchestra was to be conveyed through the poster.
Challenge
The target audience of the poster is ranging from children to young adults. it is difficult to go for a style that is suitable for all of them.
The Solution
I figured that it would be appropriate to use a style which resembles a drawing of children because of the feeling of innocence. Music shares the same quality as it is to express emotions.
I had drawn an illustration based on the logo of HKIYP which is a panda holding a baton. The illustration is a depiction of the panda conducting his orchestra. When he is conducting, magic happens. The flower starts to bloom and colourful balloons pops up. The music coloured the picture with a rainbow of music. To keep a fun and lively feeling throughout the design, I looked for elements which had a lively tone. The texture of colour pencils and an energetic font that was hand-drawn are elements which have that vibe.
